Roadwork will get underway this summer for improvements to the intersection of Leslie Street and Leslie Valley Drive in Newmarket.

The project, which is expected to last all summer, aims to improve drainage at the intersection -- just south of Leslie and Green Lane -- by installing a drain pipe and catch basin, according to the Regional Municipality of York.

While the intersection won’t be closed to traffic, residents should prepare for potential lane reductions on the road. These partial closures would be in place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on both weekdays and weekends.

Access to houses and businesses near the intersection will be maintained.

“York Region will make every effort to minimize disruptions and we thank you for your patience and understanding,” the construction notice states.

The anticipated start date is early June and it is expected to wrap up in early fall of this year.

However, the region warns that weather conditions or COVID-19 restrictions could result in some delays.

Essential construction, including infrastructure projects, is permitted under Ontario’s current COVID-19 guidelines.
