The Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will be officially opening as a full-service hospital on Sunday, June 6.
The hospital, which will serve the western York Region area, was originally opened as a dedicated COVID-19 facility in February.
Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital was the first new hospital to be built in Ontario in 30 years and is expected to double the access to care for those in Vaughan, Richmond Hill and King.
Operator Mackenzie Health says the hospital project cost about $1.7 billion, including $1.3 billion from the Ontario government.
Some of the programs that are being transferred from Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital are the Woman and Child program, Inpatient Mental Health and Inpatient Integrated Stroke program.
The emergency department will also open up as of 10 a.m. on Sunday.
The news comes as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations continue to drop in the province. Ontario currently has 706 people in hospital, with 576 in the ICU and 399 on a ventilator.
