York Region has improved its newly launched online booking system after residents encountered long wait times trying to secure COVID-19 vaccine appointments last Friday.

Wait times are down to 10 to 15 minutes, which is considerably lower than when the system first launched June 25, according to Patrick Casey, director of corporate communications for York Region.

An additional 31,000 vaccination time slots were added today as of 8 a.m., with 5,500 concurrent users signing on at that time.

One hour later, 12,000 appointments had been booked, Casey said.

To date, 801,456 residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, which accounts for 76.1 per cent of eligible residents.

405,401 York Region residents have been fully vaccinated, tallying 41.7 per cent of York Region’s adult population (age 18+) and 38.5 per cent of York Region’s eligible residents (age 12+).
