Vaughan is usually a busy bee.

So here are a few things happening in the city.

1. Learn about Promenade Centre Secondary Plan Study at a virtual open house on July 7

The area around Vaughan’s Promenade mall, known as the Promenade Centre, is under review.

The city said Promenade’s Secondary Plan Study is set to provide a plan for the development of a residential mixed-use and transit-supportive, complete community. The project will also include an extensive transportation study to help move people through the area by all modes of travel -- walking, cycling, transit and driving.

A virtual public open house will be held on Wednesday, July 7 at 6:30 p.m. for participants to receive an update on the study’s progress and ask questions. Details are available at vaughan.ca/PromenadeCentre.

2- City offering free seed packets and activities to mark Pollinator Week

One out of every three bites of food eaten has pollinators to thank for. This is why Vaughan has marked Monday, June 21 to Sunday, June 27 as Pollinator Week in hopes of raising awareness of our heroes -- birds, bees, butterflies, bats and beetles.

Vaughan is offering the following free seed packets to create pollinator-friendly outdoor spaces at home: Golden Tickseed, Lanceleaf Tickseed, Blazing Star, Helenium Autumnale, New England Aster.

Residents can claim their seed packet by emailing environment@vaughan.ca with their full name and mailing address. Packets are limited and will be distributed by mail while supplies last.

3- Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park continues but virtually

The city’s 27th annual Vaughan Celebrates Concerts in the Park is back!

On June 23, Vaughan Celebrates already paid tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John, virtually.

This year’s talent lineup features professional entertainment for all ages with genres like disco, pop, oldies, reggae and rock. The schedule is below:

Wednesday, June 23: Face 2 Face -- Tribute to Billy Joel and Elton John

Wednesday, July 7: Exodus -- Tribute to Bob Marley

Wednesday, July 14: Disco Fever

Wednesday, July 21: Shania Twin -- Tribute to Shania Twain

Wednesday, July 28: Jersey Seasons -- Tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons

4- Be part of the Vaughan Mills Centre’s transformation

The area around Vaughan Mills mall, known as the Vaughan Mills Centre, is evolving.

So far, Vaughan has finished a draft Vaughan Mills Centre Public Realm and Streetscape Plan, which will serve as a comprehensive reference guide to creating high-quality public spaces -- both City- and privately-owned -- and a pedestrian-oriented streetscape development in the area.

Citizens are encouraged to join the conversation once again at vaughan.ca/VaughanMillsPlan. Explore the draft plan and share comments to help finalize it. The digital presentation will be available until Friday, July 16.
