King Township is making a big effort to reduce speeds and increase safety on local roads.

The latest effort includes the installation of permanent asphalt speed tables in 15 strategic locations in King City and Nobleton this summer.

Speed tables are traffic calming devices that raise the entire wheelbase of a vehicle to reduce its traffic speed. Speed tables are longer than speed humps and flat-topped, according to the township.

“The installation of the speed tables is the outcome of King’s traffic calming request policy, which was developed in 2020 with the goal of improving public safety for all road users by altering driver behaviour to encourage appropriate speeds on the township’s roads,” according to the township.

King has also reduced the speed limit on local urban roads from 50 km/h to 40 km/h.
