Vaughan restaurant issued one of just three COVID-19 charges in York Region

No charges were laid in Newmarket, however, there were 76 education actions made by bylaw officers

A restaurant in Vaughan has been fined for violating COVID-19 restrictions last week.

York Region's COVID-19 enforcement task force laid three charges and conducted 468 inspections from June 14 to 20 for violations under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act, according to the region.

Island Mix Restaurant & Lounge was charged for failing to ensure that anyone in indoors wears a face mask that covers the mouth, nose and chin.

The restaurant at 3175 Rutherford Rd. received a fine totalling $880 for the violation.

Another fine was issued at Maple Nature Reserve in Vaughan for attending an outdoor social gathering with more than 10 people.

In total, two charges were laid by Vaughan bylaw enforcement and one charge by York Regional Police.

No businesses or residents in Newmarket were charged, however, bylaw officers conducted 62 inspections and undertook 76 education actions.
