Vaughan businesses are focal point for York Region's non-compliance task force tally

Loud music, seating issues land charges during week of June 7 to 13

Eight charges were issued to businesses and residents under the Reopening Ontario Act for the period from June 7 to 13 by the Region of York’s COVID-19 enforcement task force team.

Five of the eight charges were delivered by Vaughan bylaws officers while York Region Public Health issued two in Vaughan.

Three charges were for establishments exceeding maximum music volume levels beyond conversation levels.

The other charge was issued by York Region Transit but was not disclosed.

Task force members conducted 510 inspections at locations across York Region during the seven-day period. The total included 159 education sessions conducted by the team members.

The combined enforcement team includes York Region Public Health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers, York Regional Police, York Region Transit representatives and Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario officers.

Since March 2020, the task force has completed 67,041 inspections, resulting in 1,398 charges and 29,470 compliance education activities.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures are subject to fines, according to the Region of York.

Fines are $880, unless noted otherwise.

The following list includes charges for non-compliance to health restrictions and measures for the seven-day period.
