In anticipation of a busy beach season the City of Port Colborne is reminding residents and visitors of the parking restrictions in place along Lake Erie’s shore.

The city has made operational changes to prohibit parking on several roads leading to the Lake Erie shoreline.

The city says this is to “ensure the proper movement of traffic and safety of the public.”

The city warned parking on private fire lanes is also prohibited. They say bylaw officers will enforce violations daily and issue tickets accordingly.

“We want to encourage residents and visitors to enjoy our beaches this summer,” said Mayor Bill Steele.

“However, safety will always be a top priority. Beaches like Nickel and Centennial-Cedar Bay have proper City amenities and allocated parking spaces for visitors to use,” said Steele. “To avoid overcrowding at road allowances and ensure public safety, parking restrictions will be enforced by Bylaw Services.”

He said the city staff are being very diligent with the roads at end in a beach.

“Staff will be on top of everything,” he said.

“We will tag and tow. If it says no parking it means no parking.”
