Aurora will hold a virtual public planning meeting June 8 to consider a large development proposed at the town’s northern border with Newmarket.

Shining Hill Estates Collection Inc. wants to build 88 detached houses, a mid- or highrise building with 200 apartments, a park, school and natural heritage system on St. John’s Sideroad west of Yonge Street.

The proposal is part of a larger plan by the developer to build in northern Aurora and southern Newmarket.

“Nestled on the border of Newmarket and Aurora, this master-planned community will offer homes perfectly suited for all stages of life: elegant townhouses for young families, spacious dwellings for those who value comfort and refinement, and future-conscious options for when it's time to downsize,” the developer said on its website.

“Every milestone in life (is) taken into consideration so when it's time to move, you don't need to move away from the area and things you love.”

At a Newmarket council meeting in January, several residents criticized the developer’s plans to build on the Oak Ridges Moraine north of St. John’s Sideroad between Yonge and Bathurst streets.

In February, Aurora advised residents work would soon begin on restoration of a stream running through the area as part of Phase 2 of the Shining Hill development.
