Nearly half of 39 tickets issued by the regional COVID-19 enforcement task force team under the Reopening Ontario Act for the period from April 26 to May 2 were issued by York Regional Police.

Nineteen of the charges distributed to residents and businesses under the Health Protection and Promotion Act for the seven-day period were issued by YRP. Although a member of the COVID-19 compliance team, YRP does not provide the nature of the infractions or the recipients of tickets for the weekly report compiled by the Region of York.

Overall, task force members conducted 2,062 inspections at locations across York Region during the seven-day period.

The combined enforcement team also includes York Region public health inspectors, municipal bylaws officers and York Region Transit officers.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures will be subject to fines, according to a statement issued by the Region of York. Repeat offenders could face temporary closure.

Of the remaining charges, Vaughan bylaws and York Region Transit officers issued seven each. Richmond Hill bylaws issued all four of its charges at a single business establishment.
