With a little help from Central Counties Tourism, Georgina can grow some of its signature agri-tourism events.

The town received $15,000 to support agri-tourism events between May and October 2021.

Funding will help support the town’s multi-event project, Grown in Georgina, which encompasses key signature events, such as the Georgina Farmers Market, the Field to Table farm tour and Taste of Georgina.

The partnership with Central Counties Tourism encourages collaboration, tourism building and exploration of local agribusinesses, allowing the town to further build on its established events.

“With the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, now more than ever, it’s important to shop and enjoy local businesses through safe agri-tourism to support economic recovery,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk.

The funding will help with promotion, signage and online marketing for those signature agribusiness events.

There are more than 100 farms in Georgina, with more than 20 per cent selling directly to customers through farm stands and on-farm market.

COVID-19 safety and contingency plans were established for each agri-tourism event, outlining capacity limits, physical distancing measures, and contact tracing practices.
