23 COVID-19 cases linked to outbreak at Vaughan supermarket

Anyone who shopped at Concord Food Centre from April 8 to May 21 is being advised to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19

York Region Public Health issued a public notice tonight after confirming 23 COVID-19 cases linked to Concord Food Centre in Vaughan.

Anyone who shopped at the supermarket at 1438 Centre St. from April 8 to May 21, 2021 is being advised to monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 until 14 days after their last visit, according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

Public health declared the outbreak on May 12 after being informed that 14 employees had tested positive for COVID-19, he said.

Of the 23 currently confirmed cases, 18 are from York Region, two from Peel Region, two from Toronto, and one from Simcoe Muskoka.

More than half of the confirmed cases had an episode date between April 9 to May 2, with most of the affected employees now recovered, Casey said.

"Public health has been in regular communication with the company and continues to investigate and conduct case management and contact tracing," he added.

Any shoppers who develop symptoms should seek testing at a COVID-19 assessment centre.
