York Region COVID-19 enforcement team hands out 52 non-compliance tickets

Charges laid against businesses and residents found to be non-compliant with public health restrictions from May 17 to 23

York Region's COVID-19 enforcement task force team members issues 52 tickets under the Reopening Ontario Act for the period from May 17 to 23.

The total includes 37 tickets issued by York Regional Police and six tickets by York Region Transit officers, according to a May 25 York Region report.

Team members conducted 1,155 inspections during the seven-day period, and performed 365 education sessions.

Businesses failing to keep their customers and employees safe by not adhering to the mandated COVID-19 safety measures are subject to fines, according to a statement issued by the Region of York. Repeat offenders could face temporary closure.

Fines are $880, unless otherwise noted.

Crystal Ladder Learning Centre, 661 Chrislea Rd., Vaughan, employer failing to exclude staff from work.

Improve Canada, 7250 Keele St., Vaughan, fail to post safety plan in a conspicuous place where it is likely to come to the attention of individuals working or attending the business.

Meadows Wellness Centre, 10225 Yonge St. #1, Richmond Hill, business open contrary to order.

Private, 99 Aurora Heights Dr., Aurora, for a gathering.

Private Recreational Amenity, 6675 Smith Blvd., Georgina, fail to comply with rules for areas in stage one.

Wonderful Spa, 155 East Beaver Creek Rd. Unit #8, Richmond Hill, two fines issued under the Stay at Home Order.

ZipClean, 7250 Keele St., Vaughan, fail to operate the business or organization in compliance with the advice, recommendations and instructions issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health on posting signs for the individuals on how to screen themselves.
