You may have noticed fences going up along the town’s beaches and waterfront parks.
The town is preparing for the summer season with the hope of opening its public beaches with similar COVID-19 protocols in place for the 2020 season.
The town is starting to put the pieces together -- fencing, signage, painted circles, crowd counters, and capacity signs at major intersections -- that will allow for beaches open in anticipation of warmer weather and less restrictive provincial guidelines.
Last year, the town opened De La Salle park with strict COVID-19 protocols, including crowd control measures, one-way entrance and exit access points, painted circles on the park lawn for families and closing the beach parking lot to ensure capacity limits are adhered to.
The town also increased parking fines along the entire Lake Simcoe waterfront -- raising existing no-parking fines from $30 to $100 and no stopping fines from $50 to $150 in lakeside communities.
As per the town’s websites, all beaches and parks are currently open, including De La Salle Park, Willow Beach, Holmes Point Park, Bonnie Park and Malone Wharf.
An announcement on when and how the town’s beaches will open for the 2021 season is expecting in the coming weeks.
