A Maple neighbourhood remains in shock after three people, including two children, were struck around noon on Sunday, May 16.

Police tape marks the area where children's bicycles lay toppled over after a Mercedes Benz sedan went off the road on Athabasca Drive, just off Dufferin Street north of Teston Road.

A male neighbour who had come over to help the children with a bike chain also suffered minor injuries in the incident, according to police.

York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle told reporters the children were outside enjoying the weather on their own driveway when the vehicle lost control, went off the roadway and crashed into all three people.

Photos from the scene show the vehicle wedged under a tree and an uprooted transformer a few properties from the site of the crash.

A 17-year-old male driver is in police custody and is facing dangerous driving charges, according to police.

Witnesses to the incident are being urged to contact police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7441.
