Franklin Street P.S. in Markham is closed because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

There are five confirmed cases in total and the school will be closed to students from April 7 to April 19.

An outbreak is declared when at least one of the cases could have been acquired in the school. There are currently 22 open school outbreaks in York Region.

Two Vaughan schools, Johnny Lombardi P.S. with three confirmed cases and Immaculate Conception CES with four confirmed cases, will be closed to students from April 7 to April 19.

Baythorn P.S. in Markham and St. John Paul II CES in Richmond Hill are closing as well due to COVID cases. These two schools will also reopen April 19.

Three other Vaughan schools have new cases of COVID-19.

Father Bressani CHS, Holy Cross Catholic Academy and St. and Margaret Mary CES each reported one new case.

Stouffville’s St. Brigid CES has a new confirmed case and one classroom has been closed.

For all confirmed cases, families and staff at the school will be notified by letter. York Region Public Health says it will communicate directly with people who had contact with the cases.

York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board will make sure that all appropriate measures are being taken.

Public Health reminds students and families not to enter school if they are feeling sick or have had close contact with a confirmed case or with someone who is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
