York Region COVID-19 task force charge 7 establishments for non-compliance

Members of the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force laid 11 charges agains residents and businesses across the region found to be non-compliant with public health regulations and measures under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act from March 29 to April 4.

Task force members conducted 1,125 inspections during the seven-day period. In addition to the charges, officials completed 327 compliance education activities.

Of the charges, three were handed out by York Region Transit, one by Richmond Hill, and three by Vaughan.

Charges by York Regional Police are not included in the region’s report.

Fines are $880, unless otherwise noted.

Some of the charges were:

• Allowed Products Ltd., 180 Viceroy Rd., Vaughan: no COVID-19 safety plan, lack of cleaning and disinfection.

• Café Landwer, 9340 Bathurst St., Vaughan: no COVID-19 safety plan, lack of contact tracing.

• Mazaj Lounge, 118-2620 Rutherford Rd., Vaughan: hookah use in the establishment.

• Mila Mexican Restaurant and Bar, 40 Winges Rd., Vaughan: Fail to comply with any provision of the By-law.

• Posh Supperclub, 2810 Steeles Avenue West, Vaughan: Fail to limit the number of people in the establishment to 50 people.

• That’s Italian Ristorante, 2 Tall Grass Trail, Vaughan: Food or drink establishment fail to remain open only for take-out, drive-through or delivery.

• World Bowl, 9 East Wilmot St., Richmond Hill: Fail to comply with continued Section 7.0.2 Order -- Over capacity limit.

 

Since March 2020, public health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers and other enforcement agencies have completed 52,654 inspections, resulting in 1,127 charges and 25,842 compliance education activities.
