Richmond Hill, Vaughan, East Gwillimbury businesses, citizens among 24 charged with violating COVID-19 rules

York Region's non-compliance report includes 7 charges by police, transit officers

Members of the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force laid 24 charges against residents and businesses across the region found to be non-compliant with Reopening Ontario Act from April 12 to 18.

Task force members conducted 2,004 inspections at locations York Region during the seven-day period. In addition to the charges, officials completed 388 compliance education activities.

The combined task force includes York Region public health inspectors, municipal bylaws officers, York Region Transit officers and York Regional Police.

Fines are $880 unless otherwise noted.

Of the charges, seven each were handed out by transit officers and York Regional Police. York Region Public Health was responsible for two charges.

In the case of YRP, the charges were related to a gathering of seven people April 12 at a plaza parking lot in Woodbridge. All were non-York Region residents and failed to disperse at the request of police.

Richmond Hill bylaws officers charged five businesses or people while Vaughan (two) and East Gwillimbury (one) rounded out the charges.

Since March 2020, Public Health Inspectors, municipal bylaw officers and other enforcement agencies have completed 56,595 inspections, resulting in 1,181 charges and 26,803 compliance education activities.
