Despite the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, Aurora is a busy place these days.

Here are 10 things you may be interested to know:

Looking for a way to keep the kids busy this week during April Break? Get messy with a take-home activity kit or jump on your computer and explore a virtual program. Visit aurora.ca/camps for more information. To add to the fun, you can view an Instagram at-home challenge every morning at 10 a.m. from April 12 to 16. Complete a passport for a chance to win prizes. Everyone is welcome and there is no sign up required. Visit aurora.ca/camps to find out more.

After such a beautiful Saturday, many residents already have yard waste after starting to spruce up their gardens and properties. Yard waste collection begins for the season the week of April 12. For a quick refresher on yard waste dos and don’ts, visit aurora.ca/wasteandrecycling.

The stay-at-home order has forced the town to postpone its community cleanup days. The event will be rescheduled, which the town will publicize once details are worked out.

Restaurant owners, do you see your customers outside on your patio enjoying a meal or sipping a drink this spring and summer? Especially given the uncertainty of the pandemic, you may want to make sure you apply for a temporary patio extension this year. Visit aurora.ca/businesssupport.

Stuck at home with a long honey do list? At least applying for a building permit has never been easier. If you have a home renovation project coming up, you can begin submitting applications online at aurora.ca/buildingservices starting April 19.

The town won seven achievement awards from Festival and Events Ontario for virtual and in-person events held in 2020. The awards honoured municipalities that were able provide safe virtual and in-person events to keep residents and visitors engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic. Aurora was recognized for its Movies in the Park, Santa Under the Stars, Haunted Greenhouse, Multicultural Festival, Concerts in the Park, Family First Night and Christmas Market events.
