Richmond Hill public school closed for COVID-19 surveillance

214 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in YRDSB, 91 cases in YCDSB as of April 12

Red Maple Public School in Richmond Hill reported three new cases of COVID-19 and the school has been closed since April 9, according to York Region District School Board’s COVID-19 advisory notices.

No outbreak was declared yet because there is currently no evidence of transmission within the school. The school is under surveillance and will reopen April 19.

Four other schools in Richmond Hill have new cases of COVID-19.

Our Lady Queen of the World CHS, St. Charles Garnier CES and St. Theresa Of Lisieux CHS each have a new confirmed case and a closed classroom.

Christ The King CES reported four new cases and four classrooms have been closed, while the school remains open.

Eleven schools in Vaughan are reporting new cases of COVID-19 today.

Glenn Gould P.S., Ventura Park P.S. and St. Stephen CES each have one new case, while Dr. Roberta Bondar P.S., St. Cecilia CES and St. James CES each have two new cases.

Five already closed schools, Immaculate Conception CES, St. Agnes Of Assisi CES, St. Clement CES, St. Emily CES, each reported a new case of COVID-19, and Johnny Lombardi P.S. reported two new cases and has five confirmed cases in total.

Five Markham schools also have new cases of COVID-19.

Ashton Meadows P.S. reported three new cases and Thornhill S.S. reported three new cases as well and has four confirmed cases in total.

St. Benedict CES, St. Francis Xavier CES and St. Patrick CES -- Markham each have a new case of the virus.

In Stouffville, Summitview P.S. has a new case of COVID-19.

For all confirmed cases, families and staff at the school will be notified by letter. York Region Public Health says it will communicate directly with people who had contact with the cases.

York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board will make sure that all appropriate measures are being taken.

Public Health reminds students and families not to enter school if they are feeling sick or have had close contact with a confirmed case or with someone who is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
