Vaughan Walmart among recipients of tickets from York Region COVID-19 task force

Members of the York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force laid eight charges against residents and businesses across the region found to be non-compliant with public health restrictions and measures under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act from March 22 to 28.

Task force members conducted 1,159 inspections during the seven-day period. In addition to the charges, officials completed 331 compliance education activities.

Of the charges, four were handed out by York Region Transit and two by Richmond Hill bylaws officers. Markham and Vaughan officers handed out one charge each.

Charges by York Regional Police are not included in the region’s report.

Fines are $880, unless otherwise noted.

Some of the charges were:

• Metro Square MSQ, 3636 Steeles Ave. E., Markham: no active screening at entrance; no count of patrons in mall, Markham bylaw enforcement.

• One Plus One Spa, 9218 Yonge St. -- Unit 6, Richmond Hill: 2 charges for patrons not wearing a face covering.

• Walmart, 3600 Major Mackenzie Dr. W., Vaughan: Fail to comply with any provision of the bylaw, including an order or enforcement order made under the bylaw, Vaughan Bylaws.
• Since March 2020, public health inspectors, municipal bylaw officers and other enforcement agencies have completed 51,529 inspections, resulting in 1,116 charges and 25,515 compliance education activities.
