The Town of Newmarket is expected to open several outdoor amenities to residents starting Easter Weekend.
Basketball and tennis and pickleball courts, along with playground and outdoor fitness equipment, are expected to be open by April 2, said the municipality in a release issued March 31.
Adherence to public health and safety regulations, including physical distancing, proper face masks and handwashing, are expected to be observed or risk having facilities closed again.
“We are beginning to notice large gatherings at some outdoor amenities, in particular, basketball courts,” said Mayor John Taylor. “It’s important that our residents go outside for much-needed recreational activities. However, it’s even more important that the rules posted at each location as it relates to physical distancing and social gatherings are followed.
“If safety cannot be maintained, we will have to make the difficult decision to close the amenity within 24 hours.”
Taylor reminds residents to follow the rules posted at each location and use of amenities is at their own risk. He reminded residents to be courteous and share spaces.
The Global Pet Foods Newmarket Dog Park and walking and cycling trails are also open.
