Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library is partnering with Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario to offer a no-charge, personal tax return preparation service to those citizens of Whitchurch-Stouffville with low income.

Previously, this service was offered one on one inside the library. Now, due to COVID-19, those in need can bring their tax documents to the library during curbside service hours. Staff will confirm the customer’s identity by requesting a piece of government-issued photo ID, like driver’s licence, passport, or Ontario photo card.

“This program demonstrates the ability of the library to find new and creative ways to provide valuable services to our community. We are excited to be working with CPA Ontario to make this program possible," Library CEO Margaret Wallace said.

CPA Ontario volunteers will pick up the documents on March 26 and April 16. Due to the sensitive nature of tax documents, customers are asked to place the documents in an envelope, but do not seal it until they are at the library, as an additional information form will be provided. Forms can be dropped off at the curbside service on Thursday, March 25 for the March 26 deadline, and Thursday, April 15 for the April 16 deadline. Curbside service for both March 25 and April 15 runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Questions about tax returns can be directed to Kate Scheiers, Community Engagement Coordinator, at 905-642-7323 ext. 5237 or kate.scheiers@wsplibrary.ca.
