No Newmarket businesses received fines for breaking public health rules last week after local bylaw officers conducted 257 inspections and issued 89 education notices between March 15 and 21.

Across York Region, 24 charges were laid by the COVID-19 enforcement task force members. All but two of the businesses charged were restaurants; the remainder were both day spas that received multiple charges.

Just Relax Wellness Centre in Richmond Hill was charged twice for not having patrons wearing masks and was fined $880.

Suko Health and Beauty Spa, also in Richmond Hill, received three charges for the same reason and was also fined $880.

The charges against York Region restaurants ranged from having too many people dining indoors -- some laid prior to the province increasing capacity limits last weekend -- to not ensuring physical distance between patrons.

The Mills Tap House and Grill in Vaughan was charged with both of these offences and received two separate fines of $880 each.

A Tim Hortons outlet on Centre Street in Vaughan faces a total fine of $880 for failing to limit the number of people sitting at one table.
