A construction site usually isn’t pretty but Aurora has found a way to spruce up the Library Square development project.
As part of the demolition and excavation of the downtown site, Chandos Construction has installed construction fencing around the perimeter of the property.
The town said in a statement it identified the fencing as “a potential canvas for art installations hinting at the community’s bright future and has installed a series of creatively designed banners to showcase the project.”
The innovative use of fencing highlights the importance of the Library Square project to the community, Mayor Tom Mrakas said.
“The illustrations are fun, colourful and illustrate the vision for this project, based on values and principles that will help bring our community together,” he said.
The fencing banners can be swapped out as the construction progresses and the vision for the new space evolves, the town’s statement said.
The first phase of the fencing is inspired by the community, “emphasizing the people who will use the space and who give Aurora its liveliness, purpose, and vitality,” the town said.
Library Square is expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.
It will feature a vibrant outdoor square, a new community building attached to 22 Church St., an enclosed pedestrian bridge and an exciting new space at the Aurora Public Library.
“It will be a special place where all ages can come together in all seasons to enjoy art, theatre, music, shopping, community events and activities,” the town said.
