Where is it?
Georgina Ice Palace, 90 Wexford. Dr., Keswick.
Who runs the vaccine clinic?
The Georgina Ice Palace vaccine centre, together with the Richmond Green Sports Centre clinic in Richmond Hill, is hosted by York Region Public Health.
The other three vaccine sites -- Ray Twinney Recreation Complex in Newmarket, the new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in Vaughan and the Cornell Community Centre in Markham -- are run in conjunction with the local hospital.
When did the vaccine centre open?
Officially, March 3.
But appointment availability depends on regional vaccine supply.
Daily doses are subject to vaccine availability and supply.
Is this vaccine centre only for Georgina residents?
No.
The clinic is available to all eligible York Region residents.
Residents are encouraged to choose the clinic closest to their home.
How are vaccines being rolled out?
Vaccines are by appointment only. Residents are to register online prior to booking an appointment.
The region added a new colour-coded system to each of its vaccine centres:
Red: appointments are fully booked;
Orange: limited appointment availability; and
Green: now booking new appointments.
Supply of COVID-19 vaccines are provided by the province in a three-phase plan.
Currently, we are in phase one of the vaccination plan, meaning those who are 80 years of age and older, and the highest priority health-care workers living or working in York Region are eligible.
Phase two includes essential services such as emergency services, teachers and the food and construction industries, followed by the general public by age group. And phase three includes remaining York Region residents.
Why the Georgina Ice Palace?
It’s accessible, has a large indoor space to host mass immunizations, plenty of parking available and has multiple entrances and exits to accommodate physical distancing and one-way entrance/exits.
What can I do while I wait to be vaccinated?
Continue following public health guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19: maintain physical distancing; wear a mask in indoor public places and on transit; wash/sanitize hands often and thoroughly; avoid travelling to other regions in different colour-coded pandemic restrictions.
