4 schools in Markham, Vaughan closed due to COVID-19

Bayview Fairways P.S. in Markham reported a case of COVID-19 over the weekend and has been closed to students from March 22 to April 6.

Three Vaughan Catholic elementary schools also closed due to COVID-19.

Father John Kelly CES has three confirmed cases and will reopen April 6.

Our Lady Of Fatima CES reported one new case of COVID-19 and has three cases in total. The school will reopen April 6, as well.

St. Andrew CES has also been closed, with two confirmed cases. That school, too, will reopen April 6.

Two already closed schools, Lorna Jackson P.S. and St. Joseph the Worker CES in Vaughan, each have a new confirmed case of COVID-19.

Eight other schools in Vaughan have new cases.

Mackenzie Glen P.S., Charlton P.S., Maple Creek P.S., St. Angela Merici CES, St. Catherine Of Siena CES and St. Michael the Archangel each have one new case of the virus.

Meanwhile, Pine Grove P.S. and Tommy Douglas S.S. each reported two more cases of COVID-19, and Tommy Douglas S.S now has six confirmed cases in total, but the school remains open.

Five Markham schools have new cases of COVID-19.

Bill Crothers S.S. reported one more case of the virus, bringing the total confirmed cases there to six. Wismer P.S., Willowbrook P.S. and St. Anthony CES also each have a new case of COVID-19, and Middlefield C.I. has two new cases.

Two schools in Newmarket, Dr. J.M. Denison S.S. and Prince Charles P.S., each reported a new confirmed case.

Georgina’s Fairwood P.S. and Keswick H.S. also each reported one new case of the virus.

In Aurora, Hartman P.S. and Highview P.S. each have a new case of COVID-19.

Crosby Heights P.S. in Richmond Hill reported two new cases of the virus, and Nobleton P.S. in King also has two new cases.

York Region Public Health says it will communicate directly with people who had contact with the cases.

York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board will make sure that all appropriate measures are being taken.

Public Health reminds students and families not to enter school if they are feeling sick or have had close contact with a confirmed case or with someone who is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
