Ontario has loosened capacity restrictions for bars and restaurants for York Region and other parts of the province in the red zone.
Starting at 12:01 a.m. March 20, restaurants, bars and other food and drink establishments in York Region can open at up to 50-per-cent capacity of the indoor dining area, subject to physical distancing rules and up to a maximum of 50 people.
The province made the announcement March 19 in a news release, noting it was "cautiously adjusting" dining capacity limits at restaurants and bars under its COVID-19 rules.
Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas applauded the announcement in a tweet as "great news for our local restaurants".
Previously, restaurants in the red zone were only permitted to serve up to 10 people inside.
Only people who live together can dine together at restaurants, with exceptions for people who live alone and caregivers.
