The province is investing $933 million in 80 long-term care projects across Ontario to modernize living spaces for residents.

These projects include building more than 7,500 new spaces and more than 4,100 upgraded spaces, as well as the construction of more than 60 new LTC facilities and 35 campuses of care, where multiple services will be provided at the same location.

The $933 million is in addition to the $1.75 billion earmarked for 30,000 new LTC spaces over 10 years, as promised by the provincial government.

In York Region, it means an additional 1,530 new beds and more than 300 upgraded spaces.

"We’re increasing and upgrading long-term care spaces in our community to keep up with the growing demand in York Region, which is expected to rise over the next decade," York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney said.

The projects include building new facilities, upgrading older facilities to improve infection prevention control measures, especially those with older ward-style rooms, adding new facilities in high-needs areas, and addressing the growing needs of diverse groups with dedicated LTC facilities to serve Francophone and Indigenous communities.
