Mill Pond Park will have a new lease on life as the City of Richmond Hill is undertaking two comprehensive studies for the rehabilitation and renewal of the park.

The first study is a stormwater environmental assessment to evaluate existing stormwater drainage within the Mill Pond Park study area and to propose options for rehabilitation of Mill Pond, the Heritage Estates Stormwater facility and the valleyland sites north and south of Mill Pond.

The aim of the study is to develop a solution to improve water quality, reduce erosion and prevent flooding in the area.

The second study is a park revitalization master plan, which will be completed to guide upgrades to the park and stormwater management works.

Several things will be discussed with the community, such as, existing and potential new outdoor recreation facilities, trails and natural heritage enhancement projects.

The projects will be implemented over time to reduce disruption to park users.

The preservation of Mill Pond Park’s environmental and historical qualities, while ensuring the park meets the recreation needs of the community, will be the aim of the park revitalization options.

A number of events will take place over the course of both projects to facilitate community input.

A self-guided walking tour will be posted on the city’s website this spring to seek public input on the park improvement areas.

The first public open house is expected to be held in the fall and a second one is expected to be held in 2022. The notices of the open house sessions will be mailed to homes in the nearby neighbourhood and information will also be available on the city’s website.
