In recent years, the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC), which has been actively developed in Vaughan, has achieved good success. Since 2015, VMC has attracted more than 9 billion yuan of economic activities. It is estimated that by 2031, more than 63,000 people will move to the core area of the city center, involving about 32,000 residential units.

The Vaughan Metropolitan Center is known as the largest and most ambitious development plan in Vaughan. At the VMC Subcommittee meeting earlier this month, the VMC’s work process and some related data were disclosed. It is estimated that more than 63,000 people will move to the city Approximately 32,000 residential units will be allocated and completed, which is 256% and 270% higher than the previously set long-term planning target for 2031.

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua said at the meeting that from 2015 to 2020, VMC has attracted more than 9 billion yuan in economic activities.

The second phase of the plan will focus on culture and art. At present, Vaughan is improving the planning of the first phase of VMC, including the opening of new roads, transportation routes, parks, and so on. The city government is even considering expanding the current boundaries of the VMC to include more land for development, and re-examining the current building height and density requirements, as well as land use planning. According to the data, the east-west boundary of VMC is between Highway 400 and Creditstone Road and Maplecrete Road, and the north-south boundary is between Highway 407 and Portage Parkway.

The second phase of the VMC plan will focus on cultural and artistic projects. City manager Jim Harnum said that the renewal plan will improve connections between major districts, including bus stops, schools, commercial and residential areas, and other community facilities, such as connecting pedestrian paths and public open spaces.
