A York Region Public Health-led clinic is set to open a second site in Vaughan at the Maple Community Centre, for residents to get their vaccinations to fight COVID-19, beginning Monday, March 15.

For York Region as a whole, the Maple clinic will increase the number of the total number of destinations readied for vaccinations to six.

“This additional clinic will support 19,000 COVID-19 vaccine appointments that will be open for booking on Monday, March 15, 2021, at 8:30 a.m.,” York Region said in a press release March 13.

So far, York Region is in Phase 1, focusing on vaccinating seniors aged 80 and older as well as priority health-care workers who live and work in the region.

Appointments can be booked at york.ca/Covid19Vaccine.

Public Health Clinic dates and times vary for each location.

In a Q&A newsletter forwarded by Vaughan Coun. Marilyn Iafrate, the time for the appointments depends on when sufficient vaccine supplies are available.

“As a result of no-shows and/or cancelled appointments, additional vaccine supply may become available and a small number of appointments may appear through the online booking systems,” the explanation said.

“To support residents in understanding this, a colour-coded system has been applied to the york.ca/covid19vaccine page to help residents easily identify which clinics may still have available appointments.”

Red is for appointments that are fully booked, orange for limited availability and green for new bookings.

The Ontario government announced that its extending the interval for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccine up to 16 weeks, or four months.

Public Health will be notifying residents who have a second-dose appointment booked.

“With 19,000 more vaccines available, individuals in our community can sign up effective Monday. While we have the capacity to administer 150,000 vaccines a day, we simply do not have enough vaccines from the federal government," Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan said. "On Monday, Ontario’s vaccine booking portal goes live for those born in 1941 and earlier. Individuals can sign up at Ontario.ca/bookvaccine or call 1-888-999-6488.”
