COVID-19 enforcement team doles out 52 non-compliance charges across York Region

Public Health, Vaughan bylaws officers hit double digits for charges

The York Region COVID-19 enforcement task force laid 52 charges under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act against businesses and residents found to be non-compliant with public health restrictions and measures from March 1 to 7.

Task force members carried out 2,294 inspections during the seven-day period. In addition to the charges, officers completed 933 compliance education safety measures and protocols.

Of the charges for the week, 17 were handed out by York Region Public Health while Vaughan bylaws officers laid 14 charges.

Charges laid by Markham (6), Richmond Hill (5) and Whitchurch-Stouffville (4) bylaws officers also are listed. Town of Aurora bylaws laid one charge.

Although shown in the overall total for the period, the list of venues charged does not include five charges laid by York Region Transit.

All fines are $880 unless otherwise stated.
