Catholic elementary schools in Vaughan, King closed due to COVID-19

76 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in YRDSB, 24 cases in YCDSB as of Mar. 9

St. Margaret Mary Catholic Elementary School in Vaughan has been closed due to COVID-19, according to York Catholic District School Board, though it only has one confirmed case and one closed classroom.

St. Mary Catholic Elementary School in King has been closed as well, as it has three COVID-19 infections and four closed classrooms.

Three other Vaughan schools reported new cases.

Secondary school Woodbridge College reported five more cases of COVID-19 on Mar. 9, bringing the total confirmed number to eight, but the school remains open.

Pierre Berton Public School has a case of COVID-19, and Maple High School has two new cases.

Thornhill’s E.J. Sand Public School reported one more case of the virus and has two confirmed cases in total.

Two Markham public schools, Ellen Fairclough and Fred Varley, each report two new cases of COVID-19.

In East Gwillimbury, Holland Landing Public School and Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Elementary School each have a new case.

King City Secondary School, Sixteenth Avenue Public School in Richmond Hill, and Georgina’s Sutton District High School each have a new case of COVID-19.

York Region Public Health says it will communicate directly with people who had contact with the cases.

York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board will make sure that all appropriate measures are being taken.

Public Health reminds students and families not to enter school if they are feeling sick or have had close contact with a confirmed case or with someone who is showing symptoms of COVID-19.
