The City of Richmond Hill is always looking toward the future on everything -- from sustainability to the type of transit we’ll need.

One of our most important initiatives is also one of our most forward-looking. City Plan 2041 is the process that will update the city’s official plan for the next two decades.

That plan will cover everything: from land-use planning to future public and private sector development. Essentially, it’s the road map our staff and future councils will follow in their decision-making process.

When new parks are designed and new buildings go up, it will be based on our updated official plan.

Making that plan a reality starts with you. Beginning this month, and continuing throughout the year, we’ll be reaching out to you -- our residents, businesses and visitors -- to get your thoughts on how we should be building our community for the next generation.

Bring us your best advice on employment, climate change, housing and whatever else you believe needs to be part of our future planning. With the support and input from our residents and businesses, I am optimistic City Plan 2041 will set us up for future success.

Join us for our launch event at the City Plan 2041 Virtual Open House, taking place Thursday, Feb. 18 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Register online at RichmondHill.ca/OPUpdate today!

Keep your eye out for more consultation opportunities later this month. You can subscribe to RichmondHill.ca/OPUpdate for updates.

Ultimately, together, we will build a future where everyone can thrive.
