Whitchurch-Stouffville could be in store for a new cell tower.
Freedom Mobile has approached the town with a proposal to locate a telecommunication tower at 5061 Bethesda Rd, that is currently the site of the town’s Operations Centre. The town’s telecommunication tower protocol (TTP) requires the submission of a pre-consultation application and site plan control application when a telecommunication tower is proposed.
Last month, council passed a motion allowing Freedom Mobile to submit theses applications.
Staff are also currently reviewing a template lease agreement, with standard terms and conditions, submitted by Freedom Mobile. If acceptable terms and conditions can be met between Freedom Mobile and the town, Freedom Mobile will proceed with submitting the site plan application.
When Ward 3 Coun. Hugo Kroon asked how much money a potential lease agreement would net the town, staff said they would have to research current market rates.
