Construction continues on the redevelopment of the Unionville Home Society (Union Villa) campus at Hwy. 7 into an affordable rental building for seniors, owned and operated by Housing York Inc. (the region’s affordable housing company), as well as the future townhome development by Minto Communities.
JUST THE FACTS
- Activity on site includes the reconfiguration of the driveway from Highway 7 as well as the installation of underground municipal services.
- The Housing York Inc. building will include 260 apartments as well as a public community centre and a seniors hub split between eight-storey and 12-storey sections.
- In addition to underground and ground level parking for visitors, the building will feature an outdoor garden, pedestrian walkway and energy efficient building systems.
- Once the seniors facility is built (partially funded by $4.2 million received through the joint federal and provincial social infrastructure fund), current residents of Union Villa cottages will have the option to move into the new building. At that point, the cottages will be redeveloped into public market townhomes.
- The first residents are slated to move in to the new building by the end of 2022.
