The Town of Georgina is offering tax relief during these challenging times as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

Homeowners and business owners can apply to have the first property tax instalment and the quarterly water/wastewater bill deferred until April 26 with no penalty or interest charges.

Property owners must apply online.

“We know many people in our community continue to face uncertainty and financial challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “We do encourage everyone who is able to pay their property taxes on time to continue to do so, as this will allow the municipality to continue to provide the services required by our residents and business community.”

To be eligible for the deferral, property owners must be experiencing hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic from loss of employment, temporary suspension of pay or general financial hardship, and their tax and water/wastewater account must have a zero balance as of Aug. 1, 2020.

The Civic Centre remains closed to the public, but there are several ways to make tax payments remotely, including pre-authorized programs, online and telephone banking, and sending a post-dated cheque by mail.
