Slow-downs coming on Oshawa streets

Speed reductions are coming to a couple of streets across the city.

Council recently approved a speed reduction to 40 km/h from 50 km/h on a portion of Grand Ridge Avenue.

According to a city report, Grand Ridge Avenue is a dead-end street, which runs west from Harmony Road North for about 500 metres. The first 120 metres is posted at 50 km/h before reducing down to 40 km/h approaching St. Joseph Catholic School and Grand Ridge Park.

The report states many vehicles travelling west from Harmony Road are not slowing when the posted speed reduces to 40 km/h.

Therefore, the entire stretch of road will be marked at 40 km/h.

A speed reduction is also coming to Grandview Street North between Rossland Road East and Taunton Road East.

According to a city report, this section of Grandview Street North, approximately 2.4 km in length, sees the posted speed limit change from 50 km/h to 40 km/h and back to 50 km/h a total of four times.

City staff say this can cause confusion for drivers, with many exceeding the 40 km/h limit near the three parks located on Grandview Street East.

Therefore, in order to enhance safety in this area, this section of Grandview Street North, between Rossland Road East and Taunton Road East will now be posted as 40 km/h.
