Georgina, along with the rest of York Region, entered into the red zone under the province’s COVID-19 response framework.

That means residents are no longer subject to provincial stay-at-home orders. But residents are reminded to limit contact to your household and social gatherings are limited to five people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

While COVID-19 case numbers are improving, now is not the time to let your guard down, said Mayor Margaret Quirk in a statement.

“We know how quickly this can change and we can be placed right back into lockdown,” she said.

“We still have a long road (ahead), but I’m happy local businesses can begin to open slowly.”

Quirk encouraged residents to support local businesses and #ShopLocalGeorgina, but to remain vigilant by “wear a mask, keep your distance and only make essential trips.”

Tobogganing at the ROC:

Residents are to follow COVID-19 safety protocols and the number of users will be monitored by town staff.

The tube and terrain hill at the ROC will remain closed for the rest of the 2021 winter season.
