A four-building complex is coming to Thornhill, soon to fill out the maturing neighbourhood north of Promenade Mall. The site of The Thornhill from The Daniels Corporation and Baif Developments has been active at Bathurst Street and Beverley Glen Boulevard since mid-2020, when drilling rigs began work on the site's caisson wall and pile+lagging shoring systems. About half a year since then, a large excavation is unfolding on the site where the Kirkor Architects-designed buildings will rise.
After drilling rigs worked their way around the site perimeter to form below-grade shoring walls, excavation commenced late last year. We last checked in on the site in January when digging had progressed a few metres below street level, beginning to etch out space for the complex's foundations and underground levels.
This dig has since advanced considerably, roughly doubling in depth as the site moves closer to the forming stage for the underground levels. A pair of excavators continue the dig one shovel-full at a time, loading materials into dump trucks that will haul it off-site.
The area currently being excavated represents the footprint of the entire development. Sales continue for the complex's 25-storey eponymous first phase and 15-storey second phase, while the future 6 and 12-storey buildings planned at the west end of the site have yet to come up for sale. The completed first phases will introduce the first infusion of new condominium units to the block, with this initial pair of buildings to be followed by more units to the west.
