The province is investing in local long-term care facilities to the tune of more than $666,000 for prevention and containment efforts during the second COVID-19 wave.

Provincial funding will help establish a 24/7 health checkpoint and COVID-19 screening for essential caregivers and health care workers along with infection control measures, cleaning and sanitization and hiring more staff.

“This funding will help front-line heroes in our long-term care homes protect vulnerable residents,” said York-Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney.

“Each day, the staff in long-term care homes are focused on improving the lives of their residents and this funding will help make our community more secure while reducing the risk of COVID-19 entering the homes.”

The following long-term care homes in in Georgina and Bradford received additional funding:

Once an outbreak is declared in a home, the province continues to work alongside local public health units, hospital partners, the local health integration networks and all health sector partners to help stabilize the situation and return the home to normal operations.
