Tony Van Bynen, Liberal MP for Newmarket-Aurora, participated in a virtual federal pre-budget town hall hosted by the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce Thursday, Feb. 11.

Here are five key take-aways:

1. COVID-19 pandemic is having a profound impact on the Canadian economy. Van Bynen said that until the virus is controlled, the economy is not going to be able to get back to near-normal.

2. The federal government will make investments to jump-start the economy and to help achieve the goal of creating one million jobs. The government plans to invest $70 to $100 billion over three years to create jobs in an effort to get the economy back on track.

3. The government's focus will be to build a greener, more competitive, more innovative and more resilient country.

4. The plan is to build an inclusive economic recovery that leaves no Canadians behind.

5. Van Bynen said the government should be looking at opportunities and stimulus for small businesses because of the uncertainty in the economy moving forward.
