AURORA

The Aurora Public Library hosts a free virtual talk and book reading with professor and author Cheryl Thompson on Feb. 4. Her book "Beauty in a Box" examines Black beauty in Canadian culture while her book "Uncle" examines racial stereotypes during the post-Trump era.

NEWMARKET

The Newmarket African Caribbean Canadian Association hosts a series of virtual events including:

Feb. 5 -- Black Magic Podcast: Conversations about the Black Experience

Feb. 13 -- Standing on Strong Shoulders, a moderated panel discussion on personal empowerment, resistance and resolve

Feb. 18 -- Riverwalk Commons Illumination

Feb. 25 -- Book reading by Desmond Cole, author of "The Skin We’re In: A Year of Black Resistance and Power"

The Vaughan Public Library is hosting a number of online events, from lecture series to book clubs in honour of Black History Month, including:

Feb. 10 -- Reflecting on Racism and Discrimination lecture seriesĀ 

Feb. 11 and 25 -- virtual adult book club discussing "Overground Railroad: The Green Book and the Roots of Black Travel in America" and "Daughter of the Boycott: Carrying on a Montgomery Family’s Civic Rights Legacy"

Feb. 22 -- virtual teen book club discussing "I'm Not Dying with You Tonight"

Visit the Ujamaa Virtual Black-Owned Marketplace to support local Black-owned businesses featuring goods from around the world. The aim of the Ujamaa Marketplace is to support and mentor the next generation of Black entrepreneurs.
