Music, books, poetry and more: Vaughan’s Black History Month goes virtual this February

Amid this provincial stay-at-home order, Vaughan citizens will still have the opportunity to enrich their knowledge about contributions and achievements of peoples of African and Caribbean ancestry.

Starting Monday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m., the City of Vaughan will mark Black History Month event, virtually at www.vaughan.ca/culture.

Jean Augustine, who was presented with the key to Vaughan in October, will “speak about the achievements of Black Canadians and the important contributions they have made to Canada,” the city said in a release.

The virtual event will include a special reading of an original poem by author and poet Nadine Williams entitled 'Fabric of Our Being', which will also commemorate the International Decade of People of African Decent 2015-2024. Kunle Chris also will provide his folk and soul music that bridges contemporary styles with roots in West African rhythms and stories.
