Markham warning residents to not skate on natural ice due to warming temperatures

The city of Markham is warming residents to not skate on natural ice and to only skate on outdoor ice rinks due to the temperature rise.
Over the next week, Environment Canada report that the temperature is expected rise above 0 degrees Celcius.
The temperature rise will cause the ice on natural bodies of water including storm ponds, where residents have been recreational skating and engaging in shinny.
Residents are reminded to stay away from the ice over natural bodies of water or storm ponds, and to only skate on outdoor ice rinks.
The Markham Civic Centre Outdoor Ice Rink is open for skating. Changes have been made to ensure a safe experience for participants during COVID-19.
