Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Markham, Aurora, East Gwillimbury schools have new cases of COVID-19

Vaughan Catholic high school closed until new year after office staff possibly exposed to virus

Father Bressani Catholic High School in Vaughan is closed until the new year effective Dec. 7 due to COVID-19.

The school reported two confirmed cases and one closed classroom Dec. 7, but its principal, vice-principals and other office staff are self-isolating after possible exposure to the virus, so York Catholic District School Board decided to close the facility.

The planned return date is Jan. 4, 2021.

Meanwhile, St. Padre Pio Catholic Elementary School in Vaughan and St. Benedict Catholic Elementary School in Markham both remain closed due to outbreaks. St. Padre Pio is scheduled to reopen Dec. 9, and St. Benedict, Dec. 14.

10 other schools in Vaughan have reported new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend.

Pope Francis and St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic elementary schools each have one confirmed case and one closed classroom.

St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School has three new cases of COVID-19, five cases in total and five classrooms have been closed, while the school remains open.

In York Region District School Board, Fossil Hill and Mackenzie Glen public schools and Westmount Collegiate Institute each have a new confirmed active case of COVID-19, and Maple Creek Public School has one new case, three in total.

Nellie McClung Public School has two confirmed active cases of COVID-19 and Teston Village Public School has a confirmed active case and two probable cases.

Tommy Douglas Secondary School has five confirmed cases and one probable case, and the school remains open.

Six schools in Richmond Hill have new cases of COVID-19.

Alexander Mackenzie High School, Michaelle Jean Public School and O.M. MacKillop Public School each have a new confirmed active case.

Bayview Secondary School has two cases of the virus and Trillium Woods Public School has three cases.

Our Lady of Hope Elementary School of YCDSB has one confirmed case and one closed classroom.

Three Newmarket schools have new cases.

Armitage Village Public School has one new case, three in total, while Huron Heights and Sir William Mulock secondary schools both have one confirmed active case.

Bayview Fairways and Ventura Park public schools in Thornhill each have a new confirmed active case of COVID-19.

Three YRDSB schools in Markham have new cases. Bill Crothers Secondary School reported a new case of the virus and seven cases in total, while the school remains open.

Cedarwood Public School has a new case of COVID-19 and two cases in total, and Randall Public School has one new case, four cases in total.

Two Markham YCDSB schools also have new cases. St. Benedict has one more confirmed case of COVID-19 and five cases in total.

St. Brother André Catholic High School has two confirmed cases and two closed classrooms.

Three Aurora schools, Lester B. Pearson, Northern Lights and Wellington public schools, each have a confirmed active case of COVID-19.

Phoebe Gilman Public School in East Gwillimbury also has a confirmed active case.

York Region Public Health says it will communicate directly with those who had contact with the cases. York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board will make sure that all appropriate measures are being taken.
