There is a new person in charge of the books in Whitchurch-Stouffville. The town has hired Jeremy Harness as the town’s new director of finance/treasurer.

Harness worked for the Region of Durham for the past 15 years in progressive roles within both the finance and works departments. Most recently, he had been filling two roles -- manager of financial services and corporate real estate in the works department, and project director of the enterprise maintenance management system project.

“We are very pleased to have Jeremy join the town as our new director of finance/treasurer," said chief administrative officer Rob Adams. “His impressive skillset will no doubt contribute to his leading our finance department to even greater success. His understanding of municipal legislation and procedures will allow for a smooth transition into our organization.”

With nearly 25 years of financial experience in both the public and private sectors, Harness brings diversified financial expertise to this role. His educational training and professional designations include an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University, CPA and CMA.

In addition to his professional work experience, Harness volunteers his time on the board of directors of Grandview Children’s Centre as treasurer and chair of the Finance and Facilities Committee.

Harness is replacing Brian Parrot, who is retiring at the end of this year after presiding as director of finance/treasurer since 2017. His first day on the job will be Monday, Dec. 7.
