Staff members of York Region and the York Regional Police raised over $1 million to help support the most vulnerable residents within the United Way agencies.

This year, marks the 27th year York Region and YRP have fundraised for the United Way Greater Toronto, and for the 2019 to 2020 campaign, they have donated $1,025,000.

“Members in our community have never needed us more than they do right now, and even during the most challenging health crisis of our time, out employees are demonstrating their commitment to our vision to create strong, caring and safe communities,” said York Region Chairman and chief executive Wayne Emmerson.

The 2019 to 2020 campaign included an employee payroll donation program and numerous employee-driven fundraising events and initiatives.

In the past 27 years, employees at the two organizations have raised more than $7 million for United Way. The York Region and YRP campaign has become the top campaign for United Way in the region and one of the top public-sector campaigns in the GTA.

“This has been a tough year for everyone, and we know our partner charities are working hard to keep up to meet the needs of our vulnerable residents,” York Regional Police Chief Jim Macsween said.

“Donations fuel the programs and agencies that provide this much-needed care and support to victims of domestic violence, people in crisis, those who are homeless and our youth. We are proud to partner with York Region on this important initiative,” Macsween said.

York Region chief administrative officer Bruce Macgregor said their employees give back year after year in a big way. “This long-standing commitment to our culture of caring is just one of the many things that continues to make York Region a top employer in the GTA and across the country,” Macgregor said.
