Markham-Stouffville Hospital will provide enhanced support to a Brampton nursing home battling a COVID-19 outbreak.
The voluntary management agreement approved by the Ministry of Long-Term Care will help address the current spread of the virus at Faith Manor Nursing Home, licensed under Holland Christian Homes Inc.
The COVID-19 outbreak continues to impact hospitals in specific geographical locations with Peel Region hospitals experiencing staffing shortages while trying to contain outbreaks within their own facilities, ministry spokesperson Mark Nesbitt said.
"As a result, the ministry secured a contract with Markham Stouffville Hospital, which had the required supports and was available to enter into a contract with the home," he added.
Minister of Long-Term Care, Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, said the Ford government is doing everything it can -- including voluntary and mandatory management contracts -- to protect the province's most vulnerable population.
"I thank the dedicated staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital, Holland Christian Homes and Faith Manor Nursing Home for working together to stop the COVID-19 outbreak in this long-term care home," she said.
The contract will be in effect for 90 days and may be extended, if necessary.
To date, the ministry has issued seven mandatory management orders and approved 20 voluntary management contracts between Ontario hospitals and long-term care homes.
